Locality: Anderson, Madison Co., Ind. A thicket across the river, to the left of the C.W. + M.R.R. bridge. Situation: 6 feet up in the center of a wild crab-apple tree; among the thorns of the main branches. Particulars: Nest made of weed-stems, dead leaves, & grapevine-bark; lined with coarse grass-stems. The ♀ was setting. Last year, in this thicket, I found the nest of this same pair of birds. It was all I could do to get through the branches.
